Hedy Lamarr
This pieces stands as an example of one of my first photoshop projects. The objective was to create a collage that embodies the significance and impact of a certain historical figure. I chose Hedy Lamarr for her distinct beauty and intelligence. Lamarr was not only a flawless black and white film actress but also an inventor. Lamarr played an essential role in creating the blue prints (seen in the background) to the first frequency hopping device that would help the military guide torpedoes to avoid any threats. The military initially turned her work away, but later returned to it. Her intelligence was underestimated due to her beauty. People did not think someone could be as smart as they are pretty. While researching quotes from Lamarr, I felt connected to her sort of edgy and brave demeanor that she took on in order to stand up to how she was treated. The portrait I chose expresses that attitude well. And as an icon to female pride, an assistant to the military, and a strong and determined woman proving nothing could bring her down, I thought that ‘Rosie The Riveter’ was a perfect match for this collage.
